  • Plant Lasers

Just found this movie from a few months back – some accidental plant weapons:

  • Hardware Cellular Automata

I’ve been wanting to design one of these for ages but this adafruit conway kit (thanks Nik!) does it better than I could have managed. You can also plug multiple kits together for bigger worlds.

  • Public Relations

Showing the expensive PR department I employ (not really), two synchronised articles in the media – one on the BBC website on livecoding that was filmed a few weeks back at the Roebuck during PubCode 2. Also an article on Furtherfield about the Futuresonic festival which includes a section on the groworld game.

  • Plant Eyes v8

A new version of plant eyes, mac version here. This version has better controls (just cursors and space to grow), a lot of new pickups and corresponding ornaments which grow on you – and nutrients to increase the distance you can grow. Also new frilly bits:

  • Groworld @ Sommercamp Workshop

We’ve just spent the last week at the sommercamp workshop in Berlin, where we experimented with human plant interfaces. The last image there is a psycho-galvanic analyzer, based on the work of L. George Lawrence. Unfortunately it seems our attempt to replicate the apparatus was unsuccessful. Perhaps this was due to the lack of signals…

  • Plant Eyes: New Leaves

I’ve fixed up the pickup/ornament system for the plants, and added leaves based on concept art from foam’s flickr which I think is either Lina’s or Theun’s work.

A new way of growing roots… In this version you move through space (using the ‘f’ key) and leave a trail of ‘breadcrumbs’ that the root follows. This means that we can slow the growth right down. I’ve also been experimenting with some shaders to work up the look of the thing a little more,…

  • 3D Stones and OSX version

I’ve made my first ever OSX binary release of version 6 of plant eyes, making it truly cross platform! 🙂 Things are moving a bit slowly with the game at the moment. I seem to have the whole thing in pieces on the floor, metaphorically – but I’ve added stones which block the roots from…

  • Real roots and fake stones

Some roots reference images from our garden: And a fluxus sketch thinking about what first-person growth could look like through soil filled with little stones, this is just an extension of the circle packing script from the first roots test I wrote into 3D:

  • Plant Eyes Version 6

Lots of new features requiring asterisks and exclamation marks: *** NEW!!! – root steering with the camera! *** *** NEW!!! – follow roots from the seed to the tip and back again! *** *** NEW!!! – grow roots on your previously grown roots! *** *** NEW!!! – garish textures! *** Of course, it also comes…
